At the Dentist's ESL Worksheets, Role-Plays and Activities
In this visiting the dentist worksheet, students learn and practice vocabulary associated with going to the dentist. First, students read a text about a visit to the dentist. Next, students answer comprehension questions about the text in their own words. Students then read clues and complete a crossword using the dentist vocabulary in bold from the text. Lastly, students complete sentences about dental health so that they are true for them. Students then compare their answers with a partner and discuss any similarities and differences.
In this dentist role-play activity, students practice responding to dentists and dental hygienists. In pairs, students read cards that contain a dialogue between a dentist, dental hygienist and patient. Students put the numbered dentist's and hygienist's lines in order, 1, 3, 5, etc. Students then read the patient's response cards and add them into the conversation in the correct order, numbering the cards (2, 4, 6, etc.) accordingly. Next, students role-play the dentist dialogue with their partner several times, changing roles each time with one student playing the patient and the other playing both the dentist and hygienist. Finally, students remove the patient's lines and role-play the dialogue again with the dentist/hygienist reading their lines and the patient responding by themselves. When the students have finished, they swap roles.
