ESL Quantity Adjectives Activity - Speaking: Running Dictation - Pair work - Grammar and Vocabulary Exercises: Binary Choice, Gap-fill, Writing Sentences - Pre-intermediate (A2) - 35 minutes

In this adjectives of quantity running dictation activity, students practice quantity adjectives through descriptions of fictitious countries. In pairs, one student is the 'reader' and the other is the 'writer'. The reader runs to text A which is about a fictitious country called Bananopia, reads a line of the text, memorises it, runs back and dictates it to the writer, who writes it down. When text A has been dictated, the students swap roles for text B which continues with information about the country. When the pairs have completed the running dictation, review the text together as a class. Next, referring to text A, students underline the correct adjectives of quantity in a passage on their worksheet. Students then use text B and the quantity adjectives provided to complete the second part of the passage. Afterwards, pairs create their own country, giving their country a name and writing sentences about the country's size, location, features, climate and people using adjectives of quantity. Lastly, each student finds another partner and asks them about their country.

Quantity Adjective Dominoes

ESL Quantity Adjectives Game - Vocabulary: Matching, Sentence Completion - Group work - Pre-intermediate (A2) - 20 minutes

In this adjectives of quantity game, students play dominoes by completing sentences that contain quantity adjectives with suitable nouns. The first player places one of their dominoes at one end of the domino on the table, pairing a sentence containing an adjective of quantity with a suitable noun. The player then reads the completed sentence to the group. If the other players agree the sentence is grammatically correct and makes sense, the domino remains in place. If not, the player takes back the domino. The first player to get rid of all their dominoes wins the game.

This quantity adjectives worksheet helps students to practice using adjectives of quantity. To begin, students match sentence halves together that contain adjectives of quantity. Next, students categorize the adjectives of quantity according to their usage. Afterwards, students look at adjectives of quantity that are very similar and often confused with each other. Students then underline the correct adjective in each sentence. After that, students move on to read a story and fill in gaps with the correct adjective of quantity. In the last exercise, students complete sentences containing adjectives of quantity with true information and then compare their sentences with a partner to see if there are any similarities.

In this free adjectives of quantity game, students match and complete sentences with quantity adjectives. In pairs, the students take it in turns to turn over one sentence card and one adjective of quantity card. If the adjective of quantity completes the gap-fill sentence, the student reads the sentence aloud, replacing the missing word with the adjective of quantity on the card. The student then keeps the two cards and has another turn. If the cards don't match, the student turns them back over. The student with the most pairs of cards at the end of the game is the winner.

ESL Adjectives of Quantity Activity - Grammar and Vocabulary: Categorizing, Identifying, Matching, Gap-fill - Pair work - Upper-intermediate (B2) - 25 minutes

Here is an adjectives of quantity activity for upper-intermediate students. To begin, working alone, students categorise words into adjectives of quantity and nouns. Next, one student reads a gap-fill sentence from their worksheet to their partner using the word 'blank' for the missing adjective of quantity and noun. Their partner listens and looks in the two boxes at the top of their worksheet for a corresponding adjective of quantity and noun to complete the sentence and then says the words to the other student. If the other student agrees the words are correct, they write them in the sentence, and their partner crosses the words out. If not, their partner looks for another adjective of quantity and noun. When a sentence is complete, the two students swap roles. The first pair to correctly complete all their sentences wins.

ESL Adjectives of Quantity Game - Grammar and Vocabulary: Matching, Gap-fill - Group work - Upper-intermediate (B2) - 20 minutes

Here is a fun adjectives of quantity board game for students to play in class. In the game, students try to claim as many squares as they can by completing sentences with suitable adjectives of quantity. Teams take it in turns to roll the dice. If a team rolls an odd number, they can only complete an odd-numbered sentence. If they roll an even number, they can only complete an even-numbered sentence. The team members then choose a numbered sentence and complete it with an adjective of quantity from the centre of the board, writing the adjective in the space provided. If the other team agrees the quantity adjective is correct, the team wins the square. If not, the adjective is erased. It is then the other team's turn to roll the dice and try to claim a square. Later in the game, if a team rolls an odd or even number and there are none of those sentences left, the team misses a turn. The team with the most squares at the end of the game wins.
